DSCN0935

During these cold, gloomy days of winter, preparing  a colorful pick me up of Limoncello is just the ticket!  This recipe is from my godmother who not only was kind enough to share her recipe with me, but gave me a bottle of her Limoncello as a Christmas gift.   What a nice idea!  You might want to consider this as well.  Not only is making the Limoncello a pleasure, but dressing it up in a cute and festive bottle is also fun.

Below are recipes for the classic Limoncello as well as a Cream of Limoncello (Crema di Limoncello)  YUM!

Limoncello:

INGREDIENTS

zest of 10 large organic lemons (organic is a must as the rinds will be used)

1 quart of grain alcohol or vodka

4.5 cups water

3.5 cups sugar

METHOD

1.  Peel lemons with a vegetable peeler and put peelings and alcohol in a large glass jar.  Seal the jar.

2.  Store this mixture for 8 days at room temperature.

3.  After the 8 days, boil water with the sugar.   Let cool.

4.  Once cool, add the sugar water to the jar of lemon peelings and let rest for another 8 days.

5.  Strain the lemon liquid discarding the peelings, pour into bottles.

6.  Store in the refrigerator or freezer. Serve chilled.                                                                         DSCN0938

  2. Hi Diana. Nice blog. I have been following L´s blog and she suggested I check yours. Good job. The first thing that cought my eye was this recepie. I have a tree full of lemons and no idea what to do with them apart from old fashioned limonade. Also…I have a bottle of good quality polish vodka which will come handy in this recepie. Ok…I´m off to pick the lemons. This lemon tree is not strictly mine. It´s my neighbour´s but she made it crystal clear that the fruit on my side of the fence is mine…..This year it seems like three quarters of the lemons are on my side!!!!!! Take care.
