We arrived in Venice by train from Garda – us and about 5,000,000,000 other carnival goers. Many of the partiers included children dressed in costumes of batman, princesses and pirates leaving trails of coriadoli (confetti) as they made their way to the exit of the train station that opens right onto the canal facing the neoclassical San Simeone Piccolo Church.

Super yummy and super easy. You can do no wrong with this foccaccia – it comes out every time. As you will note in the directions, it is a very sticky dough. This is the only way it has ever worked for me. The more classic dough in which you knead by hand never, ever comes out for me. It always tastes like cardboard.

Could anything be more romantic than spending Valentine’s Day in Verona, home to star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet? Sure it might seem a little too obvious, but that is a good thing. Valentine’s Day is all about being obvious on the subject of love. Just a 90 minute train ride from Milan or Venice, Verona makes for a nice side trip from either location or even a destination on its own.
